14.iv.  Claus2 Kuhl(Peter1, JohannA, ClausB) born at Stakendorf, 26 Jun 1850.
Claus immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1868, leaving Hamburg on 15 May on the
ship Borussia bound for New York, arriving 2 Jun 1868.  According
to Viola Bichel's Mineola Then and Now (1981) he went west with a wagon
train and was never heard from again; his nephew Herman Peter Kuhl said
he never married and lived in Scott Co. IA.  A cursory examination of the
censuses of Scott Co. (Special Iowa 1885, 1895 and Federal 1900) does not
reveal an unmarried Claus/Klaus Kuhl/Kuehl. Others have said that he
married and had several daughters in Scott Co.
